Eagles Respond to Early Setback, Take Series Over Paris JC
After a heartbreaking collapse in the opener, Northeast Texas Community College showed resilience and composure, bouncing back to win the final two games and secure the series over Paris Junior College.
Game 1: Late Inning Collapse Costs Eagles
NTCC appeared in control early in the series opener, building an 8-1 lead behind a balanced offensive attack and a strong start from Kaleb Kuhn.
The Eagles plated runs in each of the first three innings, highlighted by a four-run second inning and RBI performances from Boston Seahorn, Cameron Reiter, and Mason Pate. Reiter and Seahorn led the offense with three hits each, while NTCC outhit Paris 13-7.
However, the game turned in dramatic fashion in the seventh inning. Paris Junior College erupted for eight runs, capitalizing on walks and key hits to take a 9-8 lead. A two-RBI double in the ninth added insurance, and despite a late push, the Eagles fell 11-9.
Game 2: Pitching and Timely Hits Even Series
The Eagles responded with a gritty 3-2 win in Game 2, leaning on strong pitching and clutch hitting.
Cameron Reiter put NTCC on the board with an RBI double in the fourth before Paris tied the game with a solo home run in the fifth. The Eagles answered immediately in the sixth, as Josh Staten and Kaleb Steiger delivered back-to-back RBI singles to regain the lead.
Tanner Webb set the tone on the mound, allowing just one run over five innings. Lane Cole earned the win in relief, and Chris Whitaker closed the door in the seventh to secure the save.
NTCC totaled 10 hits in the game, with Reiter and Jake Farris leading the way.
Game 3: Eagles Dominate in Series Clincher
NTCC carried that momentum into the series finale, earning a decisive 7-0 shutout victory.
The Eagles struck early, scoring in the first and second innings, including a solo home run from Riley Patterson. The game remained tight until the eighth inning, when NTCC broke it open with a five-run frame.
Drew Flores delivered the biggest blow with a three-run home run, while BJ Lumkins and Mason Pate contributed to the rally.
On the mound, Cooper Schwank was outstanding, tossing seven shutout innings while allowing just six hits. Chris Whitaker added two scoreless innings in relief to complete the shutout.
Offensively, NTCC once again recorded 10 hits, with Jonathon Kent and Lumkins each collecting three-hit performances.
The Eagles won the season series over PJC going 4-1.
