Eagles Split Road Doubleheader with Navarro
CORSICANA, Texas — The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles split a doubleheader with Navarro College on March 14, dropping the opener 7–3 before bouncing back with a convincing 9–1 victory in the second game.
Navarro Rallies Late to Take Game One
NTCC came out strong in the first game, jumping on the Bulldogs early. Jonathon Kent scored the Eagles' first run when Carson Umphres singled to center field in the opening inning. Cameron Reiter followed with an RBI single to right field, scoring Boston Seahorn and giving NTCC a 2–0 lead.
The Eagles added another run in the second inning when Luke Nohinek scored on a Seahorn ground ball that resulted in a Navarro error, extending the lead to 3–0.
Starting pitcher Tanner Webb kept the Bulldogs quiet early, but Navarro cut into the lead in the third inning when Lucius Sokolovic launched a two-run home run to make it 3–2.
The game turned in the sixth inning. Navarro tied the game on a fielder's choice by Brock DeYoung before Steven Ramos delivered an RBI single to give the Bulldogs the lead. Roman Cariaga then broke the game open with a three-run home run, capping a five-run inning and lifting Navarro to a 7–3 victory.
Reiter led NTCC at the plate with two hits and an RBI, while Umphres and Seahorn also drove in runs. Webb took the loss despite striking out five over six innings of work.
Eagles Respond with Dominant Game Two Win
NTCC wasted little time responding in the second game, putting together a balanced performance offensively and on the mound to secure a 9–1 victory.
After two scoreless innings, the Eagles broke through in the third when Jake Farris scored on a Kent single to center field.
The offense erupted in the fourth inning. David Sorg drove in a run with a single before Farris delivered the biggest hit of the day — a bases-clearing double to left field that scored three runs and extended the lead to 5–0.
NTCC continued to add on in the fifth. Carson Umphres scored on a wild pitch, and Josh Staten followed with an RBI single to make it 7–0. The Eagles tacked on two more runs in the sixth on RBI singles from Boston Seahorn and BJ Lumkins to push the lead to 9–0.
Farris paced the offense with two hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Kent added two hits and two stolen bases, while Staten, Lumkins, and Sorg also contributed key hits during the nine-run performance.
On the mound, Cooper Schwank delivered a dominant outing for the Eagles. The right-hander allowed just three hits and one run over seven innings while striking out six to earn the win.
Navarro scored its lone run in the seventh inning, but the Eagles quickly turned a double play to limit the damage and close out the game.
