Eagles Explode for 18 Runs in Road Win Over Southeast Arkansas
Northeast Texas Community College put together its most explosive offensive performance of the season Monday, rolling to an 18-8 victory over Southeast Arkansas College.
The Eagles wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for nine runs in the opening inning and never looking back.
Nine-Run First Sets the Tone
Northeast Texas sent 14 hitters to the plate in the first, collecting four hits while taking advantage of walks and hit batters. RBI contributions came from Boston Seahorn, David Sorg, Carson Umphres, Mason Pate, and Jonathon Kent, while BJ Lumkins and Cameron Reiter were also hit by pitches with the bases loaded to extend the rally.
By the time the dust settled, the Eagles had built a commanding 9-0 lead.
Southeast Arkansas answered with four runs in the bottom of the first and added another on a solo home run in the second, trimming the deficit to 9-5. But Northeast Texas delivered the knockout punch in the third.
Back-to-Back Blasts Break It Open
With the bases loaded, Carson Umphres crushed a grand slam to push the lead to 13-5. Just moments later, Jonathon Kent followed with another grand slam, capping an eight-run inning and stretching the advantage to 17-5.
Kent finished 3-for-4 with five RBI and a home run, while Umphres drove in five runs of his own. The Eagles totaled 14 hits and drew seven walks in the game.
Cameron Reiter added two hits and two RBI, Seahorn drove in two, and Sorg chipped in a pair of RBI as part of the balanced attack. Lumkins scored three runs and added a double, while Josh Staten also doubled and scored twice.
Bullpen Settles In
After a high-scoring first inning on both sides, the Eagle bullpen stabilized the game. Lane Cole earned the win with three innings of work, striking out three. Jax Prewitt, Barrett Hamilton, and Sam Durard combined to close out the contest and secure the road victory.
Southeast Arkansas managed six hits, including two home runs, but Northeast Texas' offensive outburst proved too much to overcome.
With 18 runs, two grand slams, and 14 hits, the Eagles showcased their depth and firepower in a statement road win.
