Men's Soccer at Angelina

Men's Soccer | 09.03.2024

Lufkin, Texas — The Eagle's men's soccer team came out with a performance worthy of recognition and a result but fell short in a heartbreaker on Friday night at Angelina.  NTCC responded after disappointment the previous week at Richland with a consistent effort but ultimately lost 1-0 to the Roadrunners.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Both teams came out strong in the first half and had moments of excitement. NTCC sophomore co-captain Tristan Donasciamento lead the troops and pushed the game and the team forward allowing the Eagles to press Angelina and make them uncomfortable at times. The backline of sophomore Riley Marshall, freshman Charles Chimenze, and sophomores Harvey Butcher and Andrew Rodriguez, along with freshman goalkeeper Axel Tricot frustrated the Roadrunner's attack as well. Behind sophomore midfielder Peter Donnan and sophomore forward Ian Foulkes the Eagles threatened the Angelina goal but neither team could get on the board in the 1st half.

The 2nd half was more of the same with both teams trading chances and defensive stands.

Unfortunately, before the Eagles could secure the point on the road the Roadrunners would capitalize on a deflected header on a corner kick with 9 minutes remaining and walk away with the 1-0 victory.

GAME NOTES:

Freshman goalkeeper Axel Tricot was strong in goal recording 8 saves in the night.

Sophomore midfielder Peter Donnan was an engine on both sides of the ball before coming off in the 80th minute after picking up a yellow card.

FROM THE COACH:
  • "Angelina is a well-coached team and will challenge again for top ranking in the conference and the country, credit to them."
  • "Our team has to walk away tonight with disappointment, yet balance that with knowing that the results are out there if we work hard, and consistently improve. Our last 4 times out as a team we have been up a goal, or within a goal against 3 of the top teams in the country."
  • "We won't make excuses, we will learn from these opportunities, train hard and keep looking to close the gap against these teams and look to pick up some important points at home this week."
