Lufkin, Texas —
The NTCC women's soccer team weathered a strong early attack along with persistent rain on the road at Angelina college on Friday night. The Eagles went down 2-0 before steadying themselves and keeping the score respectable against a powerful Angelina women's soccer program. In the end NTCC dropped the 4-0 decision to the roadrunners.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Angelina got on the board in the 2nd minute capitalizing on a slick field due to the heavy rain on the turf. They would add to the lead in the 6th minute when the ball took a difficult skip in the Eagles box to make it 2-0 early.
Freshmen goalkeeper
Alessandra Gutierrez rallied the Eagles with several quick reflex saves and long distributions to give the Eagles some life and a few chances the remainder of the period.
Angelina would score 2 more goals in the 2nd half to earn the 4-0 victory but not before the NTCC women would launch several attacks of their own and a few close calls on some dangerous free-kick routines that they have been training.
GAME NOTES:
Freshman goalkeeper

Priscyla Pires, Freshman Defender Sabrina Averil, and Freshman Defender
Ahilin Hernandez along with Gutierrez solidified the back line to keep the Eagles within striking distance. Sophomore midfielder and captain

FROM THE COACH:
"Angelina is once again a top team in the women's bracket, they are a well-coached team. They are really challenging to play against and there are no easy results in Region 14." "The ladies came on the road knowing the challenges they would face due to a difficult opponent, circumstance, and weather and they never quit. That says alot about our group. We will keep at it, keep improving individually, and collectively, and look to get in the win column Tuesday at home."
