Eagles Outslug Navarro 13–9 to Clinch Postseason Berth
Mount Pleasant, TX (April 30, 2025) – Powered by a relentless offensive attack and a career-best outing from Jake Farris, Northeast Texas Community College punched its ticket to the Region XIV postseason with a 13–9 victory over Navarro College on Tuesday at Eagle Field.
With the win, the Eagles (26–23, 15–13 Region XIV) secured a spot in the playoffs. The final two games of the regular season will now determine NTCC's seeding heading into the tournament.
NTCC set the tone early with a three-run first inning and never looked back. Farris led the charge, racking up eight RBIs—including a three-run triple in the seventh that gave the Eagles a commanding 12–8 lead. He finished the game 2-for-4 with a walk, triple, and stolen base.
Leadoff man Johnathon Gonzales went 4-for-6 with an RBI and three runs scored, while shortstop Boston Seahorn added three hits and four runs. The Eagles scored in five of the first seven innings, racking up 14 hits and taking full advantage of four Navarro errors.
After Navarro (19–26, 12–16) briefly tied the game with a six-run sixth inning, NTCC answered with a pair in the bottom half and then exploded for four more in the seventh. Reliever Clark Scallon (1-0) earned the win with three scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out one.
Offensively, Navarro showed fight with 13 hits of their own, led by Ben Merriman's two-run double and Braxton Heffernan's two-RBI single. McCann Libby reached base four times and added an RBI.
Now locked into the postseason, NTCC will close the regular season with two pivotal games that will determine their seeding—and their path in the Region XIV Tournament.
